About

CampyRider

I have been passionate about riding bicycles since I was about seven years old when I took a wrench to my blue Schwinn Stingray. By cutting a fork from a spare bike and sliding the legs onto the Stingray fork I fabricated a convertible chopper. Convertible since they slid on and off lest my parents think I “ruined” my birthday present.

My first road bike was a France Loire with Simplex dereilleurs, center pull brakes and a double butted frame. The wing nuts on the wheels were always a problem.

I have owned and ridden steel, titanium, aluminum and carbon frames. I have shifted gears from the downtube, the stem, bar-end (before TT bars) and now on shifters. I’ve owned bike shorts with real chamois and wore a “hair-net” helmet.

On the weekends, I coach a cycling charity team and I have a USACycling coaching certification. I race for a LBS team and my best performances are on longer hilly courses.

In this blog I will share my thoughts, comments, ideas and experiences because the people I ride with are tired of hearing them.
